The Online Traffic Fine Payment System, powered by GovPay, has now been successfully launched in the Uva Province, marking another significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s journey toward digitalizing traffic fine payments. Motorists in Badulla, Bandarawela, and Monaragala Police Divisions can now settle traffic fines digitally with greater ease, convenience, and security.

Two inauguration programs were recently held – covering Badulla and Bandarawela Police Divisions in Bandarawela, and Monaragala Police Division in Monaragala Police Headquarters to officially introduce the service.

The launch events were attended by Attorney-at-Law DIG Nihal Thalduwa, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Monaragala Range; DIG W.P.J. Senadheera, DIG Traffic and Road Safety; SSP K.W.R. Jagath Rohana, Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Badulla Division; SSP Roshan Amarasinghe, Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Bandarawela Division; SSP Kamal N. Gunawardena, Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Monaragala Division; ASP J.S. Jayasundara; ASP (III) Maniyangama; Officers-in-Charge of 19 Police Stations; Senior Police Officers; and representatives of technical divisions of the Sri Lanka Police.

In parallel to the launch, a comprehensive training programme was conducted for Officers of all three Police Divisions, focusing on the practical use of the Online Traffic Fine Payment System and awareness on educating the public on its benefits. Chief Inspectors of Police, Officers-in-Charge of Police Headquarters, and Officers-in-Charge of all Traffic Divisions participated in the training sessions. Technical training and guidance were provided by Udari Vithanage, Project Manager, ICTA; Inuka Mayakaduwa from the ICTA technical team; and Migara Silva, Assistant Manager representing LankaPay.

The implementation of GovPay Online Traffic Fine Payment System is expected to significantly reduce inconvenience to motorists by enabling fast, secure, and hassle-free fine payments while enhancing transparency and efficiency in police operations through real-time digital connectivity. This initiative is being carried out under the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Economy, in collaboration with the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), LankaPay, and Sri Lanka Police, strengthening Sri Lanka’s national digital transformation agenda and citizen-centred public service delivery.
