Online Traffic Fine Payment System via GovPay Launched in Sabaragamuwa Province
The Online Traffic Fine Payment System, powered by GovPay, has been successfully launched in the Sabaragamuwa Province, further expanding Sri Lanka’s digital traffic fine payment initiative. With this rollout, motorists in the Ratnapura and Embilipitiya Police Divisions can now conveniently settle traffic fines digitally through the GovPay platform, enhancing ease of access, transparency, and efficiency in public service delivery.
An awareness and training programme in conjunction with the launch was held recently at the Ratnapura District Secretariat under the patronage of DIG Traffic and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, who also delivered the keynote address. The programme focused on familiarizing traffic police officers with the practical use of the Online Traffic Fine Payment System and strengthening public awareness on its benefits.
The session was attended by DIG in charge of the Ratnapura District, Renuka Jayasundara; SSP in charge of the Ratnapura Division, P.M. Jayaratne; SSP in charge of the Embilipitiya Division, Thusitha Kumara; along with nearly 100 traffic officers representing the Ratnapura and Embilipitiya Divisions. Technical guidance and operational training were provided by Udari Vithanage, Project Manager at ICTA, and Malan Mendis, Project Manager at LankaPay.
During the event, Phone devices were symbolically handed over to traffic officers to support the effective implementation of the system. With GovPay now enabled in the province, motorists can receive assistance from police officers to complete payments on the spot or make payments later by following the instructions available on the official GovPay website. Upon successful payment, driving licences can be released immediately, reducing inconvenience to the public. This initiative is implemented under the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Economy, in collaboration with ICTA, LankaPay, and Sri Lanka Police, further strengthening Sri Lanka’s digital governance transformation.
